If you have bought prefabricated teak deck panels, you can follow the instructions below to bond them.

Materials to use:

1.- Acetone

2.- Lint-free cloths

3.- Latex gloves

4.- Kommerling Korapur 928

5.- Cleaner (acetone)

6.- Prefabricated teak deck panels or boards with rubber caulking

8.- Kommerling Koraflex 990

This laying method is advantageous in terms of cost and time.

Prefabricated teak and rubber deck boards are sold by the square metre. You will need to make templates of your deck and draw them on the teak boards. Once all the parts of the deck have been drawn, they are cut to the required shape (with a standard jigsaw fitted with special wood blades).

One-component elastic polyurethane adhesives are ideal for bonding these panels to the deck because they are easy to use. They resist salt water, have excellent thixotropic or self-levelling properties as required, and no additional mechanical fixings are needed. Once cured, the bond is extremely strong, permanently elastic and watertight.

Even if holes have been made in the surface to be bonded (which we do not recommend under any circumstances), Kommerling Korapur 928 will fill those holes and seal the surface.

Instructions for bonding prefabricated wooden panels to the deck structure.

First we prepare the surface, which is done differently depending on the substrate:

A) On a polyester or gelcoat deck

 - Key the whole gelcoat surface using 80/100 grit sandpaper. An extra-coarse finish texture is needed to make sure the whole surface is properly abraded. Remove the dust with a vacuum cleaner and wipe with a cloth dampened with acetone.

 - Clean the faces to be bonded with acetone and leave to dry for 15 minutes.

 - Korapur 928 bonding polyurethane DOES NOT NEED A PRIMER, unlike Sikaflex 298

B) On an old deck or on marine plywood

We do not recommend laying over an old deck. Our recommendation is to strip the old deck down to the original substrate. If you decide to go ahead, sand the old deck with 80/100 grit paper, vacuum the sawdust and wipe with a cloth dampened with acetone.

C) On an aluminium or steel deck

Clean with acetone and leave to dry for 15 minutes.

ONCE THE SURFACE IS PREPARED:

After cleaning the surface where the prefabricated deck panels are to be bonded, apply Kommerling Korapur 928. Spread it with a 4 millimetre notched trowel, making sure it is evenly levelled. Only spread Korapur over areas where the deck board will be bonded within 30 minutes; otherwise the polyurethane may start to react and form a non-adhesive skin on the surface. Korapur coverage is approximately 1.2 kilos per square metre.

Once the rubber-caulked deck board has been laid on the marine adhesive, weplace evenly distributed weights on it and leave them for 24 hours.

The procedure for laying individual teak strips on the structure is identical. The strips can be temporarily held with through-bolts in the seams (which we advise against). The bolts are removed once the adhesive has hardened, and the holes are filled when the caulking is done.

Once all the prefabricated deck panels are bonded, we caulk the seams between them with Koraflex 990.
